While more Asian Americans are engaged with politics and policy, the community still faces numerous barriers to building its power in the Chicago area and beyond. Despite being the fastest-growing demographic in the city, the state and the nation, Asian Americans remain underrepresented on all levels of government. And challenges remain for immigrant communities in battling inequitable policies and harmful stereotypes.

On November 19, join WBEZ’s Race, Class, and Communities reporter Esther Yoon-Ji Kang for a conversation on the past, present and future of Asian American power in the region. The event will feature a conversation with State Rep. Theresa Mah and former Ald. Ameya Pawar, as well as a panel on advocacy and organizing in the region.

WBEZ would like to give a special thank you to our community outreach partners for this event: Chicago Asian Network, National Association of Asian American Professionals, Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Filipino American Council of Greater Chicago.
